CORNELL COOPERATIVE EXTENSION OF OTSEGO COUNTY

The Cornell Cooperative Extension educational system enables people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work. The CCE of Otsego County offers numerous programs designed to assist the agricultural community. Some of these programs include:

Agriculture Vitality
The Agriculture Vitality Program focuses on assisting farming and related businesses through economic development activities to maintain the viability of the industry in the area. It provides up-to-date technical information to assist producers to enhance their productivity, reduce the cost of production and increase their profit margin.

Central New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Specialists
Cornell Cooperative Extension Associations of Chenango, Montgomery, Otsego, Herkimer, Fulton and Schoharie counties sponsor this regional program. They publish fact sheets, newsletters and press releases as well as providing one-on-one assistance to producers. The Team's objectives are listed below and are achieved through classes, seminars and workshops.

Objectives:
  • Increase the competitiveness and profitability of the dairy, livestock and field crops industries in participating counties
  • Encourage producers to adopt progressive, productive, and profitable management practices
  • Instruct and encourage adoption of conserving crop practices consistent with profitability
  • Increase producers' awareness and understanding of marketing and management opportunities
  • Encourage producers to adopt environmentally sound practices
